Double Fishtail Splice - Page 2

Get your glue ready.  I like to use Resorcinol or Urac.  Have a mixing cup ready, a piece of plastic wrap and some fine sawdust.

Add equal parts of the powder and liquid to our mixing cup by volume or weight...(make sure you have plenty)...then blend in some sawdust as a binder/filler.

Liberally coat the all surfaces to be glued with the Resorcinol.  Don't skimp on the glue!

Fit the pieces together carefully.  If desired you can introduce reflex at this point.

Wrap the splice area with plastic wrap.

Clamp from each side with moderate pressure - being careful not to squeeze out all the glue.  Some squeeze-out is expected.  Let the glue setup for the time stated on the can.

Here's the belly of our bow after the clamps have been removed and the excess glue has been rasped off.

Another shot of the glue lines on the belly.

Excess glue rasped off the back of the bow.  Notice the areas we will need to remove from the outside edge of the handle.

Finished Profile of glued up billets.

Excess wood from edges of handle removed.

We are now ready to proceed to the typical bow layout.
